The Google-made Pixel Fold 2 or Pixel Flip is rumored to hit the market ahead of schedule. Google Pixel Fold was launched last May as the company's first foldable phone.
And now an online report hints at the arrival of Google's next foldable phone. The 9to5Google site is known for its APK Insight posts, where they decompile popular apps and post the results. In the latest APK Insights post, they spotted a new Pixel phone codenamed 'Comet', which is heavily speculated to be the next Google foldable smartphone.
Google Pixel Fold 2/ Pixel Flip may
launch soon
According to 9to5Google, the source
code of the Pixel Buds companion app uploaded to the Google Play Store has
revealed a new Pixel smartphone. This new phone is codenamed 'Comet'. Hence, it
can be assumed that the new device is not part of the upcoming Pixel 8 series,
which is set to launch today (October 4). Because Google Pixel 8 is codenamed
'Shiba', while 8 Pro is codenamed 'Husky', which are both names of different
breeds of dogs. Obviously, Comet doesn't fit here.
On the other hand, another report
claims that next year's Pixel 9 series will have a reptile-themed codename.
Hence, the new Pixel device is not a model in the next generation Pixel series
either. Along with this, it is mentioned that the new phone may not be part of
Google's annual launch cycle. That's why it's being speculated that it might be
launched at the Google I/O event like the Pixel Fold.
Also, in the source code of the Pixel
Buds companion app, the codenames Comet and Felix are grouped together. Let us
know that Felix is the code name of Pixel Fold. What further confirms that
Comet is foldable is that Comet is listed as case 7 in the source code, and
case 7 is referred to as "fold" deeper in the code.
925Google claims that since only a few months have passed since the launch of the Google Pixel Fold. So, it is possible that Google is planning to launch the next generation Google Pixel Fold 2 earlier. But there is another possibility. Since the company already has a slab-style foldable, the Comet will debut as a flip-style foldable to compete with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series, Moto Razr series and the recently launched Tecno Phantom V Flip.
