India has joined hands with the central organization to reduce dependence on China and develop advanced battery cells in the country

Currently, Indian electric vehicle manufacturers have to depend on countries like China and North Korea for battery cells. Meanwhile, battery cells imported from abroad are not at all ideal for countries with extreme climates like India.

A number of fires involving electric scooters in the country in the past few months bear testimony to that. Companies like Log9, C4V have already taken steps to increase self-reliance for battery cells. Recently, Ola Electric announced the creation of Asia's largest electric battery cell research center. India, a company from Hyderabad, is leading the way.

India has entered into Public Private Partnership with CECRI run by CSIR, a central autonomous body. Together with them, the company will produce state-of-the-art lithium-ion cells at the Tiramani factory in Chennai. This new factory was inaugurated by Dr. Shekhar C Mande (Former Secretary of DSIR). Besides, Dr. Kalispel (Director of CECRI) was present at the opening ceremony of CSIR.

Dr Shekhar C Mande said from the inauguration ceremony stage, “CECRI is a repository of knowledge covering all aspects of science. It has major contributions in space, defense, nuclear and other social sectors. The alliance with India will begin a new chapter in the development of state-of-the-art lithium-ion cells. Which will be next generation energy storage field. We have taken new steps to contribute fruitfully to the country under 'Amenabar Bharat'."

On the other hand, Director of CECRI Dr. Kalispel said, "CECRI's lithium-ion cell manufacturing initiative with India in the presence of former Secretary of DSIR Dr. Shekhar C. Manda is a prominent occasion for India in terms of energy storage." Again, Mahesh, Founder and CEO of India commented, “This partnership is only the initial stage of building the next generation of cells. This alliance is a testament to our credibility and technology strength in lithium-ion cell manufacturing.”
