iPhone 15 increased production costs have raised fears of price hikes

Apple launched their iPhone 14 series of smartphones in September last year. Under this lineup, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus,

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max – these four attractive handsets have entered the market. The series has already gained popularity among Apple fans and customers. However, even after the launch, these iPhone models of Apple are in discussion due to various reasons. Similarly, now a research firm has analyzed the cost of manufacturing the top-end iPhone 14 Pro Max and the results from this research are quite surprising. Let's find out what information came out from this research report.

The production cost of iPhone 14 Pro Max increased

The cost of manufacturing iPhone 14 Pro Max increased by 3.4% compared to the cost of manufacturing iPhone 13 Pro Max. The cost increase is said to be due to the inclusion of an always-on display and a new 48-megapixel wide camera lens. It is worth noting that the price of the 14 Pro Max has remained the same as its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, implying a decrease in the US company's gross profit compared to previous years.

However, lowering the cost of the cellular components used in the iPhone 14 Pro Max has reduced overall phone manufacturing costs. Counterpoint noted that iPhone 14 Pro Max's blended cellular group cost share fell to 13% due to lower component costs as the popularity of global 5G technology increased. This implies that component suppliers are making more 5G compatible components, reducing Apple's costs in an ideal supply and demand scenario.

Incidentally, using the Apple A16 Bionic chip in the iPhone 14 Pro series costs Apple $11 (about Rs. 910) more per unit than the previous generation A15 Bionic chipset. In addition, Apple-designed components for the iPhone 14 Pro Max account for 22% of the bill of materials, a much higher percentage than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Meanwhile, due to the addition of a 48-megapixel wide camera in the upcoming iPhone 15 series, the material costs of the non-Pro models are expected to increase. The iPhone 15 series models are said to have several new features, including Wi-Fi 6E support and replacement of physical buttons with solid-state buttons. Finally, the iPhone 15 will feature a USB Type-C port for the first time, which is sure to increase the device's production costs. So after keeping iPhone prices steady for the past few years, the entire iPhone 15 lineup is expected to see a price hike this September.
