Finland-based company HMD Global, maker of Nokia brand smartphones, is soon going to launch smartphones using its own brand name in India. In an interview to an all-India news agency, Ravi Kunwar,
Vice President of HMD Global's India division and APAC, confirmed the news. He said that the new HMD brand will debut its first smartphone in India in the first half of 2024. The company will manufacture all its handsets in India and export them to other countries as well.

HMD Global co-founder, chairman and
chief executive officer (CEO) Jean-Francois Baril revealed the company's future
plans on LinkedIn recently, stating that the company will soon launch its own
HMD-branded smartphone in the market alongside Nokia smartphones. He also
mentioned that new HMD-branded smartphones and Nokia phones will co-exist in
the company's portfolio.
Speaking the same, Ravi Kunwar told ET
Telecom that HMD Global will launch its own brand of devices in the first half
of next year. It will manufacture various products including phones, tablets,
feature phones, IoT devices. Kunwar added that India will be the main market
for the HMD brand and the company will adopt an 'India-fast' approach for its
devices.
HMD Global will manufacture all its handsets in India and will also start exporting from the country to other markets. The company has already tied up with manufacturers like Foxconn, Dixon and Lava to make feature phones and smartphones in India and is exporting their feature phones to the African market.
