Tata is bringing a new design car to rival the Mahindra Thar

When it comes to getting a taste of off-roading in an SUV, the first name that comes to mind is the Mahindra Thar. It is simply unique in terms of decor and features.


 

But if you get this same feature in any other car available in India, you have to spend a lot more than the price of Thar. Which is why the Mahindra Thar has been added to the list of unrivaled models. Meanwhile, Mahindra's main rival, Tata, is unwilling to leave the Suchagra Medini without a fight. So this time Tata is going to bring a new car to give the Thar a tough competition. How will that be? Let's find out.

Talking about Tata's upcoming SUV, since they showcased a model named 'Sierra' at the 2020 Auto Expo, it's almost certain that the Thar's counterpart will be launched using that name. Expectedly, it will be launched in electric model as well as ICE version. It could play a game changer in the off-roader segment.

As Tata always prefers to maintain secrecy when it comes to the cars it builds, this is no different. The prototype model shown at the Auto Expo featured a split rear glass, which will also be offered on the original car. Apart from this, it will get a split headlamp setup, flush door handle, rear LED bar.

The Sierra will come as Tata's premium model. While it competes with the Thar in terms of body structure, off road capability, considerable differences can be noticed in the feature list. Features like large touchscreen system, premium sound system, multi-regen mode, dual zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and more.

The new Sierra is expected to be based on the Gen-2 Sigma architecture. Talking about the platform, it is the heavily modified ALFA platform. The platform on which the Altroz, Punch and several other Tata vehicles are based. It may get a new 1.5 liter carbo petrol engine. Again the 2.0 liter Kryotec engine, which is used in Harrier and Safari. As confirmed by Tata, its electric model will have a range of 500 to 600 km.

Mahindra Thar Rivals Price and Launch


Before the Sierra EV, Tata is looking to bring cars based on the Curvv and Avinya. Sierra may be unveiled soon after. It is likely to launch by 2025. Talking about the price, the upcoming car is estimated to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
