While petrol-diesel vehicles can fill a full tank of fuel in a few moments, a battery-powered vehicle takes hours or more to fully charge. Although many organizations around the world have already started research to solve this problem. However, this time, it is believed that the breakthrough is about to come around the demands of the US space research agency NASA. NASA has come up with a solution to fully charge electric vehicle batteries in 5 minutes.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is currently the fastest charging technology car in the world. Which is not yet launched in India. Its battery is claimed to charge 10-80% in just 18 minutes. But this is only possible by charging with a 350kW DC fast charger. Meanwhile, the Tesla Super Charger takes 40 minutes to fully charge the car's battery. But it is not a mouthful to charge a full charge in five minutes, said NASA. Because it generates high temperature. Because to charge in five minutes, 1400 amperes of electricity must be supplied. As a result, hazards may occur.

Currently, the world's fastest charger provides a maximum current of 520 amperes. So the more power is supplied, the more heat is produced. NASA's Biological and Physical Division has formed a new team to find a solution. Who will find solutions for ultra-fast charging of electric vehicles. The technology they are currently working on is called the 'Flow Boiling and Condensation Experiment' or FBCE. which is placed on the International Space Station. This will inform NASA of the high temperatures generated during the excessive heat transfer.

How does FBCE work?

FBCE consists of multiple modules called Flow Boiling Modules or FBMs. This FBM module will start boiling when any cooling liquid is introduced inside. Bubbles in the boiling liquid will bring the liquid at the bottom of the flow channel into contact with the device walls.

An idea of ​​heat transfer can be obtained through this process. If the temperature drops, the trace will be found, and it will tell if the liquid evaporates. This is called 'subcooled flow boiling'. This will increase the power used by the current fastest EV charger by 4.6 times. The amount of which is about 2600 amperes. Which is enough to reduce the charging time to 5 minutes.
